TEN YEARS LATER, A RARE VERSION OF MINECRAFT WAS DISCOVERED

A very rare early version of Minecraft, long thought to be lost, was discovered more than ten years after its release. Another day another cube Minecraft Alpha 1.1.1 was released in September 2010 for the first time as the Java Edition. It was only available for three hours. Gaming archive experts have discovered it.

Over the years, there have been hundreds on hundreds of Minecraft versions. Fans have meticulously collected and archived a lot of them to preserve. However, one particular version, Alpha 1.1.1 or Seecret Saturday, was believed to be lost forever. It introduced fishing rods as well as sneaking to Minecraft. However, it was found to have a bug that caused the screen to go completely gray. Version 1.1.2 was released within hours.

The whole tale of its rediscovery was told via Twitter by user @lunasorcery (via Kotaku), who discovered the missing alpha. Luna clarifies that Alpha 1.1.1 was a common meme or holy theophany in Discord Omniarchive's Minecraft archiving Discord Omniarchive. Nobody believed they would discover it.

Someone stumbled across one of Luna's old tweets and inquired about it and she discovered an old backup of minecraft.jar that was the same date as Alpha 1.1.1's release date - September 18 in 2010. Luna examined the file and confirmed that it was Alpha 1.1.1 and then posted on Omniarchive - which blew up.

So I posted in Omniarchive and it wouldn't be understatement to say that some people noticed.

The reactions are enough to show how important this discovery is. I literally begin shaking.
