A RARE VERSION OF MINECRAFT HAS BEEN REDISCOVERED TEN YEARS LATER

A very rare early version of Minecraft which was believed to be lost, was discovered over ten years after its release. Minecraft Alpha 1.1.1 was released for the first Java Edition in September 2010 and was only available for around three hours, but now it's been discovered by gaming archivists.

There have been a variety of versions of Minecraft throughout the years, and fans have carefully collected and archived most of them for the sake of preservation. However, one particular version, Alpha 1.1.1 or Seecret Saturday was believed to be lost forever. It introduced fishing rods and the ability to sneak into Minecraft. However, Minecraft Survival Games Servers was found to have a game-breaking bug which would make the screen completely gray. Version 1.1.2 was released within hours.

The entire story of its rediscovery was revealed over Twitter by the user @lunasorcery (via Kotaku), who discovered the lost alpha. As Luna says the story, Alpha 1.1.1 was a cult or even a holy grail within the Minecraft archiving Discord Omniarchive and nobody of them had ever expected to find it.

Someone stumbled across one of Luna's old tweets and she was asked about it. She later discovered a backup of minecraft.jar which was created on the same date as Alpha 1.1.1's release on September 18, 2010. Luna checked the file and confirmed that it was indeed Alpha 1.1.1 and then posted on Omniarchive which then exploded.

So I posted in the Omniarchive server, and it's not overstatement to say that a few people reacted.

Just from the reactions, the reality of how big a find this is begins to take hold. I feel like I'm shaking.
