SCREENCASTIFY AND MINECRAFT ARE NOW AVAILABLE



Students will be able to log in to Minecraft: Education Edition using their AISD email address. (Students will find this information in the AISD Portal's User Profile menu.) Immediately after entering an AISD email the student will be asked to enter their student ID and password into an AISD Portal popup window. This will occur regardless of the device that the student is using.



Below are some links to help install Minecraft Education Edition on your device for students. Scroll down to see the specific instructions for your device. Before installing a personal computer at home, children should talk to a caregiver.

Instructions for Installing on Austin ISD Student Chromebooks



Austin ISD Chromebooks capable of running the Android version of Minecraft: Education Edition will require you to access the Minecraft installation page from the Google Play Store. Student Chromebooks should find the Google Play icon in the Chromebook Shelf at the lower right of the screen.



Only apps that are approved by a district can be installed in the Google Play Store app. Click on the Minecraft Install button on Google Play.

Instructions for installing on non-Austin ISD Windows Computers



Click the purple Windows button to download Minecraft Education Edition Windows Desktop Edition. The downloaded file should be opened and located. (It is likely to be in a new tab at the bottom of the browser, or in the Windows Downloads folder.)



The Windows operating system will guide you through the installation process. Choose your language and accept the End-User Licence Agreement. Continue to click Next until you are required to click the Install button. The installation can take a while before seeing a Finish button that will complete the installation.



Instructions for Installing on Macintosh Computers



Click the purple MAC button to download Minecraft: Education Edition for Macintosh. The downloaded file should be opened and located. (It will be either in a new tab at the bottom of the browser or within the Downloads folder.)



The Macintosh operating systems will guide you through the installation process. Choose your language and then agree to the End-User License Agreement. Continue clicking Next until you are asked to click the "Install" button. The installation may take a few minutes before seeing a Finish button that will end the installation.



Instructions to install iPads. iPads



Once an instructor has installed Minecraft Education Edition on an Austin ISD student iPad, students can access Minecraft. During school hours, locate the app in the Creator Apps section of the iPad.



Download Minecraft to your iPad from the iTunes Store. The app is free download. Click here to see the app in iTunes.



Installing the Screencastify Screencastify Capture Extension



One valuable way to help demonstrate learning is to capture an actual demonstration of the learning via video. Screen-capturing video is a great method for teachers to provide an online demonstration activity or for students to capture an electronic product using their recorded voice describing the product.



Screencastify is an Chrome extension that has been approved by Austin ISD. Students and staff can add the extension to their Chrome Web Store.

Austin Independent School District Chrome Web Store is available to students. From there, any app that is approved can be downloaded. This is the only method to install an Chrome extension or Chrome app on an Austin ISD Chromebook. On netigre.net , open the Chrome launcher, search and open the Chrome Web Store app. To access the approved app list, click on the Austin Independent School District link. This page will help you find Screencastify and install it.

Capture Your Video



Once the Screencastify extension is installed, students can create videos that is up to 5 minutes in length. Before you begin recording, you should practice your group presentation. The video of your presentation should not exceed 2 minutes long. This video will show you what it looks like when you take the video of your world.

Optional Editing of Your Video



Be as imaginative as you like when you create your world or recording your video. Screencastify allows students to edit their video. Your free AISD account includes a simple video editing tool. Screencastify's support page provides more details on editing videos.
