MINECRAFT AND SCREENCASTIFY INSTALL



Students will be able to log in to Minecraft: Education Edition with their AISD email address. (Students can find this in the AISD Portal's User Profile menu.) After logging into an AISD email account students will be asked to enter their student ID number and password in an AISD Portal pop-up window. This will occur regardless of the device that the student is using.



This page contains links below to install Minecraft: Education Edition on any device for students. Scroll down to see the specific instructions for your device. Students should discuss the process of installation with a parent prior to trying to install the software on a personal home computer.

Instructions for Installing on Austin ISD Student Chromebooks



Austin ISD Chromebooks capable of running the Android version of Minecraft: Education Edition will require you to access the Minecraft installation page from the Google Play Store. Student Chromebooks should find the Google Play icon in the Chromebook Shelf at the bottom of the device screen.



Only approved apps from a district can be installed in the Google Play Store app. Click on the Minecraft Install button on Google Play.

Instructions for installing on non-Austin ISD Windows Computers



Click the purple Windows button to download Minecraft: Education Edition Windows Desktop Edition. You'll need to find the downloaded file, then open it. It should be located in either a new tab at the bottom of your browser, or in the Windows Downloads directory.



The Windows operating system will guide you through the process of installing. Select the language you prefer and then accept the End-User License Agreement. Continue clicking Next until you are asked to click the "Install" button. The installation could take a few minutes before you are able to click the Finish button that will complete the installation.



Instructions for Installing on Macintosh Computers



Click the purple MAC button to download Minecraft: Education Edition for Macintosh. The downloaded file should be opened and located. It should be in either the Downloads folder or in a new tab at the bottom.



The Macintosh operating systems will guide you through the installation process. Select your language and accept the End-User License Agreement. Continue clicking Next until you are required to click the Install button. It is possible that the installation will take a while before you see the Finish button. This will end the installation.

Students can use Minecraft on an Austin ISD student iPad once their teacher has installed the Minecraft: Education Edition app on the student's AISD iPad. During school hours, locate the app in the Creator Apps section of the iPad.



Download Minecraft onto your iPad from the iTunes Store. The app is a free download. Click here to show you the app in the iTunes store.



Installing the Screencastify Screen Capture Extension



One effective way to demonstrate learning is to record an actual demonstration of the learning through video. Screen capture of video is a great method to show an online activity to students or teachers to capture a digital product using their recorded voice to describe it.



Screencastify is an Austin ISD approved Chrome extension that allows staff and students the ability to add the extension themselves through the Chrome Web Store.



Student Directions For Installing Screencastify



Austin Independent School District Chrome Web Store is available to students. From there, any approved apps can be downloaded. This is the only method to install an Chrome extension or Chrome app on an Austin ISD Chromebook. Open the Chrome launcher on the Chromebook. Search for and launch the Chrome Web Store App. Click the Austin Independent School District link to browse the list of apps that are approved by the district. This page will assist you to find Screencastify and install it.

Capture Your Video



All students are able to create videos that are up to 5 minutes in length after the Screencastify extension has been installed. Before recording, you should practice your group presentation. The presentation video should not exceed 2 minutes long. Minecraft servers illustrates what it might appear like when you are capturing the video of your world.

Optional Editing of Your Video



You are as imaginative as you want when creating your world or recording your video. Some students may want to edit the Screencastify video. Your AISD account comes with a simple video editor. Screencastify's support page provides more details on editing videos.
