MINECRAFT REACHES 54 MILLION SOLD, CONSOLE EDITIONS PASS PC

Mojang's Patrick Geuder said that Minecraft's blocky sandbox is in the process of reaching 54 million copies across all platforms. He also said on Twitter that sales of the console (Xbox 360, PS3) versions have now surpassed those of PC and Mac versions. The game will be available on Xbox One, PS4 or Vita in August. The Vita version of the game is cross-buy compatible and free for those who have the PS3 version. Minecraft Servers and PS4 owners that have the game on Xbox 360 or PS3 will be able download the new-gen versions for $5.

Players' first moments with Minecraft began in May 2009, when the beta version of Minecraft became available, over two years prior to its official release in November of 2011. Mojang and its creator Markus "Notch" Persson have celebrated many sales milestones since then, with the most recent noting that 15 million copies of the PC version were sold as of April. The Xbox 360 version sold 12 million copies, while the Pocket Edition for iOS or Android was 21 million copies. [Image: Mojang]
