Anyone can download Minecraft: Education Edition for free! There are two ways to test Minecraft Education Edition at no cost, either via the trial that is free or the demo lesson. The free trial requires you to have an account either an Office 365 Education account or a Microsoft 365 account. You do not need an account or login to take advantage of the demo lesson. This article explains how you can use the demo lesson and the free trial.



Technical requirements



Minecraft: Education Edition can be played on Chromebook, iPad, Mac and PC. Before you start playing Minecraft: Education Edition, go through the System Requirements article to ensure your device is supported.



About the trial free



The trial version is fully functional and includes all features of the paid version. The trial is compatible with Code Connection and Classroom Mode. For more information about these features, refer to the Get Started with Code Connection and Get started with Classroom Mode articles.



The trial is restricted to 25 logins for teachers with an Office 365 Education Account and 10 for all users. After that the trial ends, a paid subscription is required in order to continue playing. Trial logins cannot be refreshed. Contact our support team right away if you have any questions. After your trial logins have been used, Minecraft: Education Edition is available for purchase.

Follow these steps if have an Office 365 Education or Microsoft 365 account to access the free trial.



Select the Minecraft: Education Edition version you want to download from the Get Minecraft download page. Install the version of Minecraft: Education Edition that you downloaded. About the demo lessons



Demo lessons allow you to try Minecraft Education Edition at no cost and without having to sign up. Demo lessons are limited in functionality. Worlds and progress have not be saved and it's impossible to host or play an online game. You can experience a full Minecraft lesson by playing the demo lesson. You can play every lesson as many times as you want.



Start a demo lesson



These steps will allow you to take a free lesson.



Select the Minecraft: Education Edition version you wish to download from the Get Minecraft download page. Install the version of Minecraft: Education Edition that you downloaded. Launch Minecraft Education Edition and, on the Welcome to Minecraft: Education Edition screen, choose If you don't have an account, then try a demo lesson. To read the license agreement, choose View Terms. Select Accept Terms and then Play when you are ready to play. Select Start Lesson. Note: Lessons with the lock overlay are accessible by logging into the game using a licensed account or one that is qualified for a trial.
