MINECRAFT: JAVA EDITION LOCKS OUT OLD ACCOUNTS IN MARCH



In 2020, the developers announced an important change to Minecraft: Java Edition, since players will soon be required to swap from the Mojang account to an Microsoft account in order to continue playing. This is "soon" in relative terms, as we're still not quite at the deadline but the developers have recently confirmed the date and sent out the final call for account migration.



As of March 10, you'll no longer be able play Minecraft: Java Edition with a Mojang account. The developers are encouraging everyone to switch to Microsoft accounts for "improved security and player security" and are entice players to switch by offering free Minecraft capes.

Java Edition will continue to be supported in the normal way following the change, and will continue to be a distinct entity from Bedrock. This is a simple unification of the accounts systems.
