A very rare early version of Minecraft, long thought to be lost, was rediscovered almost 10 years after its release. Minecraft alpha 1.1.1 was released for the first Java Edition in September 2010 and was only available for about three hours, but now it's been discovered by gaming archivists.
Over the years there have been hundreds upon hundreds of Minecraft versions. Fans have meticulously collected and archived many of them to ensure their preservation. One version known as Alpha 1.1.1, also known as Seecret Saturday was believed to be lost. It introduced fishing rods and infiltrating into Minecraft. However Gslist was discovered to contain a game-breaking bug that made the screen completely gray. Version 1.1.2 was released within hours.
@lunasorcery on Kotaku posted the complete story of its re-discovery on Twitter. Luna clarifies that Alpha 1.1.1 was a popular meme or holy theophany in Discord Omniarchive's Minecraft archiving Discord Omniarchive. No one expected to discover it.
Someone came across one of Luna's old tweets and inquired about it and she eventually discovered an old backup of minecraft.jar dated the same as Alpha 1.1.1's release date of September 18 October, 2010. Luna looked over the file and confirmed that it was indeed Alpha 1.1.1 and then posted on Omniarchive and it exploded.
So I put my message on the Omniarchive server and it's an understatement to say that a few people reacted.
The reactions are enough to make you realize how massive this discovery is. I literally start shaking.
