I WAITED 11 DAYS FOR A BETWAY WITHDRAWAL. THE CHAT KEPT SAYING "

The chat window said "processing." I had been reading that word for eleven days. My withdrawal request was sitting there, approved on my end, verified on their end, and completely frozen on the other side. I had sent my ID. I had sent a selfie. I had sent a bank statement. I had done everything they asked.

I am writing this because I wish someone had written it before I deposited. Betway is huge. It has a UK licence. It sponsors football teams. I thought that meant something. I was wrong about what it actually protects.

Why I signed up

I bet on football. Small amounts. Five pounds here, ten there. I had been on three other bookmakers before, all licensed in places I could check, all slow but honest. Betway kept appearing everywhere. The odds on the Premier League looked good. The app loaded fast. The welcome offer was normal.

Before I deposited, I opened Trustpilot. The score was 1.4 out of 5 from nearly 18,000 reviews. I remember thinking, "that is terrible, but maybe it is just angry people." I told myself the same thing I always tell myself. Happy customers do not write reviews.

I made a deposit of £40. It went through instantly. The bets loaded. The odds were good. For about three weeks, everything felt normal.

The first few weeks were fine. That is the trap.

I won a little on a Saturday accumulator. Lost a little on a midweek game. The usual rhythm. I made one small withdrawal, maybe £50, and it arrived in four days. That small payout made me relax. I thought, okay, this place works. The bad reviews were just noise.

By the middle of the second month, I had built up a balance of around £180. I decided to take it out. I submitted the request on a Monday. The money left my balance instantly. It went to "processing." I had seen that before. It usually meant a day or two.

By Friday, it was still processing. I opened the chat. The agent was polite. They said my account needed verification. I sent my ID. I sent a selfie. I sent a bank statement. They said everything was received and approved.

The withdrawal went back to processing. I asked why. The answer was the same sentence I would see many more times over the next eleven days. "Your request is being processed. Please wait."

What I found when I started reading

I am not a tech person. I do not know how to read a licence registry. But I can use Google. And once I started looking, the picture changed fast.

I found a complaint on Resolver from someone who said it took four weeks to receive their winnings and another four weeks to get a deposit back. Their words: "Avoid and save yourself a lot of stress."

I found a complaint on OCU, a Spanish consumer site. Someone requested a withdrawal of €14,000 on 1 March 2026. Almost a month later, after many conversations with chat and sending all the documents they asked for, the money had still not arrived.

I found another OCU complaint. Someone had a pending withdrawal of €600. Three weeks had passed. They had sent emails. The reply was always the same: "consult with technical support." Nothing happened.

I found a Trustpilot review from February 2026. The person wrote that their withdrawal was marked as "processing commenced," but it had not been approved or paid. Normally withdrawals were received within two to six hours. This time there was no progress at all. Their words: "Customer support provides no real information, no clear updates, and no estimated timeframe."

I sat with those for a minute. Every single one of them had done what I did. Sent the documents. Waited. Got the same polite nothing.

The licence I trusted

While I was waiting for my £180, I started digging. Not just Trustpilot. I looked at Betway's record with the regulator.

I found something I did not expect. In March 2020, the UK Gambling Commission announced that Betway would pay £11.6 million for social responsibility and money laundering failings linked to high-spending customers. One customer deposited over £8 million and lost over £4 million during a four-year period. Betway failed to carry out source of funds checks. Another customer deposited and lost £187,000 in two days. The Commission said Betway had allowed £5.8 million of money to flow through the business which was found, or could reasonably be suspected to be, proceeds of crime.

I sat with that for a long time. The licence I trusted was attached to a company that had paid one of the biggest penalties in UK gambling history for failing to check where money came from.

Then I found another one. In September 2022, the Gambling Commission fined Betway £408,915 for marketing on the children's pages of West Ham United's website. The Betway logo was displayed on a webpage offering the opportunity to print a teddy bear for children to colour in. It also appeared on a "Young Hammers at Home" page.

I am not saying every one of these things means Betway will not pay me. But when you are already waiting eleven days for your own money, and you find out the operator has been fined millions for failing to check its own customers, the picture is not complicated.

The zero replies that made me stop waiting

I went back to Trustpilot's transparency page for Betway. Over the past twelve months, the company had 1,927 organic reviews. Two verified. One invited. And the page showed that Betway had flagged 12 reviews. Nine of those flagged reviews were one-star reviews. Twenty-five percent of the flags turned out to be invalid.

Nearly two thousand people took the time to write something. Almost all of them were organic. Not invited. Not verified. Just people who had an experience and wanted to warn someone else.

The moment I stopped waiting

It was a Thursday. I opened the chat one last time. I asked for an update on my £180. The agent gave me the same sentence about processing. I typed "I want to close my account." They asked if I was sure. I said yes. They closed it.

The £180 never came. I checked my bank for two weeks afterward. Nothing. I could have kept fighting. I could have filed a complaint on Resolver. I could have contacted the UK Gambling Commission, since Betway does hold a UK licence. But at some point, the energy you spend chasing £180 costs more than £180.

What I do now

I still bet. Not on Betway. Not on any site where the chat says "processing" and then goes silent for eleven days. I read the one-star reviews first now. Not the odds. Not the welcome offer. The complaints about money that did not arrive. Those are the ones that tell you what a bookmaker actually is.

I also started keeping notes. When I test a site on my phone, I write down how long the withdrawal actually takes, what the chat support says, whether the terms match what happens. I keep those notes on my own site, extra-betting.com. It is not fancy. It is just what I wish someone had shown me before I put £40 into Betway and spent a month learning that a UK licence does not mean your money will arrive.

If you are thinking about signing up

Maybe you will be luckier than me. Maybe your withdrawal will arrive in four days like my first one did. Maybe you will never have a problem.

But if you are reading this because you searched "Betway withdrawal problem" or "Betway not paying" or "is Betway legit," then you already have a feeling. Trust it. Read the Resolver complaints. Look at the OCU complaints. Read the UKGC fine announcements. Count how many one-star reviews Betway has flagged. Ten minutes of reading is cheaper than eleven days of waiting.

I do not know if Betway will fix their withdrawal system. Maybe they already have. But I know what happened to me. And I know I will not deposit there again.
