Minecraft Servers: Cross-Platform

How are Java edition servers different to cross play servers?
servers

Cross-play servers can be used by users of bedrock editions, in addition to being compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux, and Windows PCs.

Can Minecraft Java edition and Minecraft berock edition users co-exist?

Absolutely! By using a true cross platform Minecraft server, like the ones above, Minecraft Java players and Minecraft bedrock players can connect to the same world and game together - In most cases you won't even have to run the same version, as most servers use the ViaVersion plugin. To join the server, each client type will need a different IP address, but both are provided in the server pages.

I use a Nintendo switch. Can I join the same Minecraft World as my friends using xBox?

Yes! You won't even require a Cross-Play Server to do this, since all game consoles use the same game platform, Minecraft Bedrock Edition. You can invite friends and other console users to play together on any Bedrock Server.

Can Minecraft Realms be cross-platform?

Unfortunately, No. A Realm is a Mojang-hosted server that is only accessible to a few friends who use an invite code from Minecraft Bedrock Edition. Realms are hosted on Mojang so it is not possible to instal the GeyserMC proxy. This is what allows other players join.
