The Beano's Dennis, Gnasher and Walter join Minecraft By Emily Thomas Newsbeat reporter

Minecraft players need to look out for "softy" Walter and his stinky pants.

You can now add Walter, Dennis, the Menace, and Gnasher from The Beano to the PC version of the game.

Gnasher can be turned into an ointment by players and all of Dennis his jokes, like stink bombs and catapults, are a possibility to use.

It's part of the Beano's wider plans to expand into digital media and its model has emerged from a partnership between the animated series and Frima Studios, a Canadian multiplatform game developer.

Mark Cotton, who is leading digital changes at Beano Mark Cotton, the Beano's digital leader, told Newsbeat that Minecraft is "their biggest passion and their greatest love"

Mark states that the game is an extension of the comic and an attempt at making The Beano "a more holistic experience" for children.

He says that 32,000 comics are sold each Week of the Beano, which is still an acceptable number.

It's still a lot less than the two million copies sold during the height of the magazine.

Mark says, "We are very conscious that our kids today are passionate about technology."

"We need to turn The Beano into a 360 brand where Dennis and Gnasher is everywhere children are, instead expecting them to come to us.

"So we're working to a whole series on the next three to six months."

Some of those initiatives include puzzle games and interactive comics and an "action 3D game for kids".

DC Thompson, The Beano's publisher, has already expanded the brand to a television show and a photo-sharing application and YouTube channel.

Grand Theft Auto?

The comic has been around since 1938, and has many adult readers. The Beano characters might also make an appearance in adult games, such as Dennis the Menace in Grand Theft Auto.

"No. That's not something we'd focus on at the moment," says Mark.

"We're focused on the 7 to 11-year-old digital product - at the moment, digital is about truly engaging with kids and discovering their passions."

They've been working with 10 Minecraft and Beano fans aged 7-11 throughout the creation process.

Minnie the Minx

"We basically asked our kids"If you were to put Beano into Minecraft What would you imagine?'

"This was the beginning of what they imagined. Obviously their imaginations go a lot further than we could ever imagine for the time being.

"But they were looking for pranks. They wanted Walter, Gnasher and Dennis. minecraft servers list That's what they got.

"We'll keep talking to them. Our goal is to expand this and create Beanotown and let children be creative.

"Minecraft is so loved because it gives the power to children. If we try to restrict the kids and tell them what to do they'd reject it."

Are there any other characters you could be allowed in?

"We definitely want to extend it," says Mark.

"The obvious character and the ones the kids have been asking for is Minnie the Minx so we'll probably take a look at next."
