Neve ParitzkiJerusalem's first cycle tunnel has been opened in Israel The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique riding experience and hiking experience that is to be enjoyed by everyone.

The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's newest cycle tunnel, is constructed as a part of the 42-kilometer cycle route which is a loop around the capital.

The tunnel runs through the Nahal-Refaim-Emek-Motza route. The tunnel's southern entry point can be found within Refaim Park below Ein Laban. While the northern entrance is located in Nahal Ein Kerem about half a km away from the Kerem junction.

The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel was officially opened in a ceremony on Thursday , attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze'evElkin, Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov and hundreds of cyclists.

"In the past, Jerusalem was an attractive tourist city because of its rich history. Elkin explained that the modern tourist industry is a part of Jerusalem's treasures from the past and also incorporates modern tourism. "The inauguration [of] this tunnel project is yet another stage in the growth of Jerusalem as an ideal tourist destination for all types of people from Israel and all over the world."

Elkin's ministry, which also headed the project with Jerusalem Municipality, declared that his ministry "invests hundreds and millions of shekels annually throughout Jerusalem's tourism industry and is involved in developing innovative attractions and ventures, that link the amazing historical history of our capital city with the future." I encourage all cyclists to come and take a ride along the modern, well-maintained route that takes in the view of Old Jerusalem.

The project was financed by the Elkin's Ministry and the Tourism Ministry. It also included the budgets for the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin stated that the Kerem Tunnel project was a crucial element in achieving the goal of shifting the idea of transport throughout Jerusalem. "The tunnel, which will connect with the Jerusalem Ring Path, will connect the existing cycle routes in the city and will be constructed within the different neighborhoods. It is designed to encourage cycling within the city's residents and promote the green revolution in transportation in Jerusalem."

It is used today as an infrastructure tunnel. It also houses the fifth water line, which connects to Jerusalem of the Mekorot water company.
